Long Wharf Theatre
The theater making diversity & inclusion core to their brand
Long Wharf Theatre invited Madeo to help bring their vision of “Theatre is for everyone” to their brand identity and website.
Established in 1965 at the start of the regional theater movement, Long Wharf Theatre has since been dedicated to producing boundary-breaking theater and artistic performances with and for its many, kaleidoscopic communities. Thanks to a committed board of directors, they followed through with making radical changes to be as inclusive and as diverse as they can be. They made changes to their board, staff, their pricing, type of programming, membership model, and even their physical location.

Through the new design and strategy, Madeo brought a new colorful brand and website that are as dynamic and responsive to change as the theater itself. They grab attention and perform with ease, flexibility, yet with thoughtful considerations for the audiences they ultimately serve. Colors, fonts, and layouts all stretch, morph, and change in response to the content it supports. Shorter titles automatically get bigger and bolder. Page introductions get a prominent color for getting attention, then automatically fade into a subtle background to invite further reading into the body of the page. Images adjust in scale and orientation.
Today, the Long Wharf Theatre website plays a much more significant role than it ever did before. The theater moved out of its physical location where it has been for decades and opened itself fully to virtual and community performances that undeniably are for everyone.
