Education Development Center

Creating a dynamic digital experience for a historic global nonprofit

Redesigning an enterprise website to showcase organizational impact, connect 300+ projects, and bring a strategic vision to life through interactive storytelling, modular design, and seamless navigation.

Since their founding in 1958, the Education Development Center, or EDC, has been a catalyst for sustainable, community-led initiatives that address the world’s most pressing challenges. EDC is an interdisciplinary team working around the globe to advance human development, prosperity, and opportunity through three main areas: education, workforce development, and health.

With a refreshed brand and a new strategic plan, Madeo and EDC partnered on a reimagined website. While EDC’s previous website had rich details on deeper pages representing more than 300 projects, it had less depth on higher-level landing pages that spoke to the organization’s strategic framework and mission. Connecting the hundreds of projects and areas of work in a meaningful way was one of the main objectives for information architecture.

The new brand incorporates “pattern blocks” shapes, a cornerstone of EDC’s early history and work in education. Combining the brand refresh with the new vision, Transform Together, we collaborated on the website’s content, design, and technology to create an expansive and dynamic website that expresses the depth and range of the organization’s team expertise. Buttons, hero images, and calls-to-action change their shape, and impactful statistics and quotes are shared on vibrant cards.

This modular approach enables new storytelling opportunities, providing EDC with a range of options for sharing their decades of history and 300+ projects. Madeo used EDC’s purpose to frame their global efforts, in words that are clear and easily translated across seven languages.

The vision is present at every level of the new website, encouraging people to engage with the full picture of what EDC does. Even deeper project pages are connected to the mission and goals, both visually with the new brand as well as through information architecture. Through this reimagining of the website, EDC’s impact and work remain highly accessible to the partners and communities they have reached over the last 65+ years, in over 80 countries across the world.
