Colorlines
Editorial platform advancing racial justice through media and advocacy
Madeo partnered with Colorlines to design and build a robust news and editorial multi-media platform for visual storytelling and analysis of systemic inequities.

Established in 1998, Colorlines began as an established print publication on race, culture and power, adapting to the digital frontier in 2010 as a daily editorial platform. In the wake of the 2020 protests for racial justice and the COVID-19 pandemic, Colorlines sought to meet its community of engaged activists with closer analysis and tools for making change, shifting to a quarterly platform that digs deep into single issues.
This case study showcases Madeo’s designs and built website features, using placeholder written and visual editorial content to demonstrate the potential of the platform.
Colorlines invited Madeo to design and build a vastly more robust multi-media site that would support them well into the future. A library of content blocks were developed to support video, photography, podcasts, events and more.
The site was also built with a unique level of design customization, from various article layouts to a wide array of colors in order to give each quarterly issue its own distinct look and feel.
